Timbers, Galaxy Each Score In Final Minutes of Crazy 2-2- Draw

The Timbers are now 0-0-2 to start the season after a wild finish on Sunday evening that saw both the home side, and the visiting LA Galaxy score in the final two minutes on their way to an exciting 2-2 draw. The Timbers struck first in the 31st minute, when Fanendo Adi found himself alone against the Galaxy keeper after a brilliant pass from Rodney Wallace. Adi struck a brilliant shot that whizzed past Brian Rowe and into the far side netting. It was the Timbers first goal of the season, hopefully a sign of many more to come. In the first…

Asking Mr. Caleb: The Dharma and the Papa

I’m getting more familiar with my new match day process. It’s a mix of excitement, trepidation, guilt, a lingering sense of loss, a pinch of self resentment, and me pacing around the bedroom debating with my lady, Katelyn, about the merits of attending the match as a member of the press or as a member of the Army. I want her to tell me to skip the press box and be with her and my friends in the bowels of 103 halfway between sleeveless bros and courageous families on the border of regret. I want her to say I don’t…

Asking Mr. Caleb: Win, Lose, Choose

Traffic was bad and it was hot in the bumper to bumper diaspora of the Fremont Bridge. The sky was a piercing blue behind the geometric latticework of the bridge as I stared through the moon roof and contemplated the evening ahead. Not only was I torn by my justified choice to drive into downtown for the match but I was torn as to if this was even going to be an enjoyable event. There I was, sweating from a too-tight tie and black shirt, stuck in the most asinine of traffic, heading into a lovely urban core of a…

Timbers 2, Rapids 1: Season Saved? We’ll See.

The latest in the That’s So Timbers series: Face a team without half its starting lineup in an electric atmosphere at home. Go behind on a junky early goal. Let exasperation fade into despair. Make a desperate tactical switch and accompanying substitution(s).  Score a great goal. Score another great goal. Think the Timbers are the best team ever. Then remember exactly what they just accomplished. Sigh. Great win, folks. Gutsy, vital, awesome win. Operation Come From Behind at its finest. The Timbers, believe it or not, are still in this 2014 season. They’ve just won their fifth game in their twentieth…

Timbers Open Cup Run Ends In Tukwila

The Portland Timbers lost a contentious, fractious, controversial match to the Seattle Sounders 3-1 in extra time at the Starfire Sports Complex on Wednesday night in a US Open Cup quarterfinal – and that was just the appetizer for what’s to come on Sunday at CenturyLink Field. Here are my thoughts on the match last night… The Timbers Don’t Win Games Like This We should simply except it: If the Timbers are involved in a close, tight match with small margins for error, they’re not going to win it. They’re result after 90 minutes on Wednesday, courtesy of an inspired…

Asking Mr. Caleb: About These Cups

I might as well have worn fake glasses with a fake nose and a fake mustache. I wouldn’t have been less obvious. I’d broken some etiquette and taken some notice in my previous haste to break open a question and go about business unnoticed. My naivety had led me to the remnants of our last missive. An amateur among professionals. A question without the wherewithal of an ask. A shark out of water. A lionhearted goldfish? I’d rushed into the last post match presser unannounced, sweated profusely, and pretended to write things on a small orange notepad barely fit for…
