Timbers Acquire Jack Mcinerney From Columbus Crew SC

The Timbers have been busy the last couple of days, announcing the additions of Ned Grabavoy and Zarek Valentin yesterday, and continuing today with the official announcement regarding Jack McInerney. As was reported, or rumored I should say, days ago, the Portland Timbers announced today that they have completed a deal to acquire forward Jack McInerney from their MLS Cup opponent, the Columbus Crew SC. The move is an obvious one by the Timbers to replace Maxi Urruti, who was lost to Dallas in the reentry draft. Official Press Release PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers have acquired forward Jack…

Ridgewell To Brighton & Hove Albion Via Offseason Loan

This morning it was announced that defender Liam Ridgewell would be returning to the UK via an offseason loan to English Football League Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion. This offseason loan is structured similarly to the loan Ridgewell went on to Wigan last offseason, and will have Ridgewell returning to the Timbers late in the 2016 Preseason. While any loan move comes with the possibility of an injury, this in particular, makes a lot of sense for Ridgewell as it means he can stay in the UK and close to his children during the offseason. It also had a…

Championship Rematch Will Kick Off Timbers 2016 Season

It was announced this morning that the Timbers will kick off their 2016 campaign at home on March 6th against the Columbus Crew SC in a rematch of this years MLS cup Championship. The match was announced as part of a greater MLS press release in which the league unveiled the opponent for each club’s home opener for next season. This match, beyond the obvious rematch and redemption (for Columbus) story lines, will be just the 4th time that Columbus has traveled to the Rose City. It will be their first visit to Providence Park since the 2014 season. The…

Timbers Announce Three Re-Signings

Today the Timbers announced that they have re-signed three players: Midfielders Ben Zemanski and Nick Besler, as well as Defender Andy Toma. All three players are on the hook for the 2016 season though their contract lengths beyond that were not disclosed. Of the three, Zemanski is notable as someone who could likely see plenty of time as a secondary option in the midfield when injuries or international duty come into play. He is also recovering from an ACL injury suffered during the 2015 preseason. The other two, Besler and Toma could still develop into important pieces for the club, but…

Timbers Acquire Chris Klute From Columbus

As alluded to in my last post, the Timbers have already brought in a solid defender to replace Jorge Villafana. It was announced Friday that the Timbers had traded allocation money to the Columbus Crew SC in return for defender Chris Klute. Klute, who played 15 matches for the eastern conference champion Crew SC, made a name for himself in Colorado in 2013. Since then, though, the defender has struggled to maintain the level of quality seen during the 2013 campaign. Much in the same way that the Timbers saw upside in Villafana, they see that same upside in Klute -…

Timbers, Galaxy Each Score In Final Minutes of Crazy 2-2- Draw

The Timbers are now 0-0-2 to start the season after a wild finish on Sunday evening that saw both the home side, and the visiting LA Galaxy score in the final two minutes on their way to an exciting 2-2 draw. The Timbers struck first in the 31st minute, when Fanendo Adi found himself alone against the Galaxy keeper after a brilliant pass from Rodney Wallace. Adi struck a brilliant shot that whizzed past Brian Rowe and into the far side netting. It was the Timbers first goal of the season, hopefully a sign of many more to come. In the first…
